You don't always need your phone
Updated: Dec 18, 2020
Back in the day, I might go weeks without a single prayer. Then I would wake up in the middle of the night and feel compelled to spend a few minutes in prayer and go back to sleep. Often times I wouldn't know what to pray for, and I would reach into the far places of my memory and still come up short. I started keeping notes in my phone for these moments so I would remember the people I had promised to pray for. I have always had a poor memory in this regard so I also made it a habit to pray for someone's need immediately. One of the main features of the Prayer Pals app is to keep good record of your prayers so no one is forgotten. Since I have been using this app, I have found it to be extremely helpful in this regard.
Two weeks ago, church was about to start and I was sitting at my drums and I was flagged down to come to the front of the stage. I was concerned because we were literally about to start, but I came forward and to find out what was so important. I was asked If I could put someone on the prayer chain and was told they wanted to ask me in that moment so they wouldn't forget to ask me. The problem is my memory is not very good either. I was able to open the app on the way back to the drums and put in the request quickly before the first bass drum was required. Again, I was very happy to have the app as a tool for my prayer life.
Yesterday, I was walking and I felt a strong need to pray for my friend immediately. This happens from time to time and this is why I say you don't always need your phone. The app is a tool to help facilitate prayer, but it is nothing on its own. Prayer is the point. I don't need to reach for the phone to reach out to the God of the universe to ask Him for the things He brings to my mind. My hope for you today is that you find the reasons to pray and take the time to pray and that you make a daily connection. If you have a favorite game that you play on your phone, chances are you do not go weeks between playing sessions. Spend time in the app organizing your thoughts and reminding you of what and who your are praying for. If you do, you probably won't go weeks between prayer sessions and you may find your self answering the call to pray without your phone nearby. Answer the call and you won't be disappointed that you did.
1 Peter 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.
